Save Money on Web Hosting
In the past you've had 2 options for web hosting. You could either host the website yourself, or you could pay somebody else to host it.
Hosting your own website was always cumbersome It meant that you had to maintain an IIS server with a constant connection to the internet. It also meant that you had to be your own webmaster and keep your site secure on the internet.
The next option was to pay somebody to host your website. I've used that option for most of the websites I've created. This has always been a great option. All you do is upload your site (usally by FTP) and voila, you now have a website. No fuss. It's an option that was not always cheap. My ISP's always found a way to charge me for different little things.
Enter The Cloud
"The Cloud," is a broad term for the internet. Generally speaking, Microsoft is making a big move to hosting services on the cloud. For instance, much of their software is available as a service on the cloud. This is different than it used to be. Traditionally, if you wanted to use a software package, you had to buy it. That's starting to change. Now you can pay for your software as you use it on the internet.
So what does this move to the cloud mean to you?
Free Stuff!
You can use Microsoft Live to host your website, your e-mail, and you can even store documents on OfficeLive. I use it, it's great. You can create document spaces, do team collaboration, and access your documents from anywhere you have internet access (can you say, Starbucks?).
You can get free websites from all sorts of places on the internet these days. I know that you Google will give you one, and also you can get a pretty inexpensive package from GoDaddy!
